# Audio latency

> The delay between a sound being produced and being heard, and the parts that add up to it over AirPlay.

> Audio latency is the time between a program producing a sound and you hearing it. Over AirPlay from a Mac it's dominated by the sender's buffer (2000 ms by default) rather than the speaker, which reports needing about 70–85 ms.
